About this quiz
More than a hundred languages hold official status somewhere in the world, and 76 countries have more than one. In each round you see a country and four languages, and exactly one of them is official there. The other three are guaranteed not to be official in that country under any name, so there are no trick answers.
Expect a few surprises. English is official in places as different as Nigeria, Fiji and Belize. Portuguese is official in Mozambique and East Timor, French in Haiti and Djibouti. Arabic is official in every Arab League state, and also in Chad and Eritrea.
Easy mode takes its wrong answers from the same region, while Hard mode takes them from neighbours and close relatives, which is where the real learning happens. The fact card after each answer gives the country’s name in Arabic and English, its capital and its currency, plus a short fact to remember it by.
